- We regret to inform everybody that as of today we will no longer
be selling Highland Pacific Golf Course green fee passes.
Highland Pacific's owners and management were not willing to
negotiate a special corporate membership for our association. In
fact, the owners have decided to no longer honour our existing terms
after the end of our current contract in March. Instead, they are
prepared to offer a flat discount off their regular rates to the
defence team in lieu. More to follow.
We will continue to sell the range passes for now as we have over
$1,000 worth of prepaid passes sitting at the gym.
If you have any green fee passes left over you have until Mar
13th to use them.
Also, as most of you know the Naden Athletic centre will be
closing from Monday 28 Feb until Friday 18 Mar 11 due to required maintenance.
We have been told that the kiosk will be relocating to NELLES
BLOCK and they will be able to sell golf passes there, it is unknown
at this time if we will be able to use visa or debit card
machine, so for the time being it is suggested that you bring cash.
More to follow as it becomes available.

At our recent AGM, three new members stepped up to the plate to take over positions becoming vacant. Our new regular member director is Mike Carver, taking over from Mike Bradley who is posted away, new Vice President taking over from Gilles Leblanc who is posted away and new communications director is Brian Hammond, taking over from yours truly as I am retiring from the public service this fall and moving away. All members should feel very fortunate that we have members to take over these positions as they are critical to the continuing operation of the association. We have such a strong club and it is the members of course that make it so. Contact information will be updated as these members gradually assume their positions.
The course list is updated with prices for 2010. Some small adjustments have been made to accommodate the HST.
Dates for our two tournaments are set. See "tournaments".

Your executive is happy to finally be able to announce the acceptance of our AGM minutes and our new membership category of "Associate". Associate members are those DND civilian workers with 20 years or more of service. See the "Membership" link on our website for complete information. The kiosk will be accepting membership applications immediately. Application forms are on our website "Membership" page as well as hard copies at the kiosk. Leave completed applications with kiosk staff along with your proof of service. They will forward same to our Associate Member Director. If approved, you will be asked to report to the kiosk for your photo membership card. Associate members are active starting August 01/2009 so get your application in now for play commencing in August.

The executive is inviting members to compete in designing a new CFBEGA logo. While details will be forthcoming in the next week or so, interested members can start the creative process. The feeling is our logo does nothing to display a connection between golf and CFB Esquimalt. Suggestions for the winning logo include, but are not limited to, a golf theme along with the Pacific Fleet, CFB Esquimalt, MARPAC, our local geography (ocean with mountain backdrop), Naval Crests, and so on. Let your imagination be your guide. The logo needs to look good both small (such as on a shirt) and large (such as on a banner). Simple but elegant comes to mind - a good logo should not need to have multiple lines and colours. The executive shall be the judge of the winning submission. The winner shall receive a yet to be determined prize and will be recognized on this website. More information and an emailing will follow as soon as details are completed. So put on your creative hat and let's see what you've got!
-
At Highland Pacific, unlike our other member courses, you do not show up at the course and pay for guests and get the CFBEGA guest rate. To get the CFBEGA rate for your guests, you must buy passes for them at the kiosk. See "courses" for full details on rates and discounts.

The golf gods blessed our road trip to Mayfair Lakes and Furry Creek. Apart from a brief shower on Friday our weather was pretty good and CFBEGA member Duncan Chapman even carded a hole in one on Furry Creek's 16th hole. A good time was had by all. Many thanks to event organizer Tony Corriea and to Kim Reach, Chris Miles, Dallas Mckeough, and Yvon Giroux, the drivers from the Transport Team for safely navigating our beautiful new motor coach. Your CFBEGA executive is pleased to announce improvements to our arrangement with Metchosin Golf Course. We no longer have restrictions re Regular and Ordinary members. Your executive takes great pleasure in announcing the addition of Highland Pacific to our list of golf courses. Many of you have discovered Highland driving range through our passes available at the kiosk. Now you can play there as well! See
this memo for full details.
-
A significant item to come out of our AGM is a new category of membership. This is the "Associate Member" and will consist of retired civilians with a minimum of 20 years service to the defence team. In addition, they must have retired in or since the year 2004. Full details will be posted on this website as soon as the AGM minutes are approved and if the proposal is accepted by the Base Commander. Associate memberships will not be sold until this takes place. Proof of years of service and retirement date will be required for all new associate members so if you meet the qualification and don't have said proof you may wish to go about getting it now to have ready when memberships go on sale. There will be a limit to the number of associate memberships sold.

Be advised that for the 2009/2010 golf year, we will not have our customary 16 passes during the winter months at Olympic View. OV will stay at 12 passes all year. Further, our pass numbers at Duncan Meadows all year have dropped from 8 to 6 only. These changes are a cost saving measure and are in keeping with current demands.

The 25th annual World Amateur Handicap Championship has concluded in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. 3620 participants from over 20 countries competed for 4 rounds at over 70 courses. Five CFBEGA members made the long trip and participated. Of note is the performance put in by our VP, Gilles LeBlanc, who placed 3rd in his flight and narrowly missed playing in the final and deciding 5th round for the World Championship. See "World Am" under "links" for full information on this annual event.
